Steer-In, a revered American restaurant located at 5130 E 10th St in Indianapolis, has been a staple since 1960, offering a nostalgic dining experience reminiscent of a classic diner. Customers rave about the homemade quality of the dishes; the Beef Noodles, a family recipe served with mashed potatoes and gravy, is a standout favorite that captures the essence of comfort food for many. The Big Steer Burger, with its juicy patty and unique steer-in sauce, is another crowd-pleaser, alongside other signature burgers and breakfast items, such as the delightful French Toast. Reviews consistently highlight the restaurant's friendly service and the welcoming atmosphere. Diners appreciate the wide variety on the menu, with dishes ranging from crispy fried chicken to savory meatball trio plates, expertly crafted with a perfect blend of meats. Patrons like Daryl Staton and Mark Rumney emphasize the homemade feel of the food, even mentioning standout items like fish and chips and well-prepared salads. The nostalgia of dining here, coupled with the high-quality offerings and affordability, makes Steer-In not just a meal but a cherished experience. As Chris Wright noted, it’s a visit that truly satisfies both the palate and the heart, making this hidden gem worthy of repeated stops.

First time trying this place. It's been here since 1960 and the decor has a nostalgic feel to it. All of the food definitely taste homemade. The pork tenderloin sandwich is awesome, the mac and cheese is wonderful, even the coleslaw is really good. We will come back whenever we're in the area. I definitely recommend this place!

The food was very good with great flavor. triple d did not disappoint. Yes walking in takes you back to a 60s diner. But the food was still awesome. I enjoyed my visit.

Great place to eat. Today, I was craving fish and chips, but fish and onion rings instead. So, I decided to try theirs. Delicious and I had their very well prepared Chef's Salad for later.

I cannot count how many times I have passed The Steer-In and wondered what was the story here. Now I can say I am a huge fan of this unique restaurant with a long established history. I felt like I was taking a step back in time as the restaurant has an old school diner feel to it with many regulars. We were greeted immediately with a friendly welcome. There were many great options but we decided on the half fried chicken, the beer battered fish sandwich and meatball trio plate The chicken was crispy yet tender on the inside. The fish sandwich was large and very tasty. The fries that came with it a step above as not always impressed with crinkle style fries. These were very good. Where they truly made my evening was the meatballs. Usually a bit skeptical ordering them outside of an Italian restaurant, I know that sounds a bit pompous, but wow, they blew me away in taste. Sauce was spot on and the mix of beef pork and veal perfection. I can see why they were featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Service was extremely friendly and prompt. Already looking forward to the next visit and would highly recommend you stop by and see for yourself . Fun fact, beer cannot be ordered at the counter yet perfectly ok at table or booth.

We’re fairly new to Indiana and we love diners so you know we had to find the good ones. We visited a couple before landing on Steer-In and it’s the only one we’ve gone back to! The service is always great. The girl who always works the bar (i wish i got her name) she always waits on us, even the time we didn’t sit at the bar and we love her! She’s super friendly, shes attentive and gets the orders right every time. Food comes out quick, and is always delicious. Even the portions you get for the price you pay is worth it. The restaurant itself is clean and gives a homey feel. 10/10 recommend!

Bright lighting, with a great diner/drive-in vibe. Our server was personable and knew all the ins and outs of the place, including the menu/specials. The food is very good, likely homemade or homemade adjacent. Chili was not spicy, and a bit sweet, but pepper made it very good. The apple pie a la mode was a crusty, gooey, delightful mess. Great joint

We went here today for the first time to try out the Hoosier tenderloin. I’ve heard a lot of things about the tenderloin and they were right it was great! It was thick, crunchy, spicy and large, not real large and not medium so I loved it. Gave the tenderloin 9. The onion rings were a pleasant surprise. They were large And crunchy and delicious and the onions did not slide out when you bit into them so I gave them a 10. I wanted to get a piece of that banana cream pie, but I didn’t have room to eat it. It was a good place to go.
